Integration of Conventional and Digital Core Analysis

The calculation of petrophysical properties from micro Xray-CT images is increasingly used to extend and improve
conventional core analysis. This proposal seeks to integrate experimental measurements of key petrophysical
quantities with direct numerical simulation at the same scale and the same boundary conditions, thus allowing a
direct comparison of experiment and simulation for heterogeneous reservoir cores. Integrating measurement and
simulation this way allows a calibrated local analysis of the solutions, which are e.g. potential fields, using the
underlying morphological fields and other order parameters including topological partitions. We consider this the
basis of a) understanding local mechanisms controlling reservoir performance and b) powerful upscaling
mechanisms.
