Hydrodynamic modelling of ocean currents for use in operational forecasting and oil spill response

A Western Australian based consortium of partners led by Professor Greg Ivey from the UWA Oceans Institute have compiled a team of specialist researchers, including staff from Pawsey’s supercomputing and data visualisation facilities, BOM and Ocean Systems Engineering, to develop and maintain an operational 3D hydrodynamic forecast system that will provide near real-time description of the complex surface and subsurface ocean circulation and properties of the waters off Australia’s North West coast.
