This proposal is to support fundamental and applied research in ocean wave energy. The principle aim is to explore loading on wave energy devices in ambient and extreme conditions using computational fluid dynamics. An ARC linkage proposal is currently under review (and has received very positive rejoinder comments) to better estimate extreme loads on the CETO 6 wave energy device being developed by Carnegie Wave Energy. The linkage proposal also aims to determine if extreme loads may be reduced significantly through active control of the device (thereby reducing the chance of failure and the cost of seabed foundations). This application for computing resources will support numerical work proposed as part of this ARC linkage proposal as well as ongoing work being undertaken by the research team on wave energy hydrodynamics.
