Continuous 2km regional climate simulations to analyse future changes in climate extremes

This project will produce continuous 20-30 year simulations at 2km resolution over two domains, one covering Sydney and the surrounding region, the other over Brisbane and south-east Queensland. These experiments will create some of the longest fine-scale resolution simulations for Australia, and will be used to research potential future changes in extremes of several weather and climate related variables at regional- to local- scale. This work will contribute towards updating the Australian Rainfall and Runoff manual, which is used extensively by engineers and hydrologists for planning and infrastructure purposes. While the project will particularly focus on heavy rainfall, but will also investigate lightning and hail, wind, drought and fire risk.
