If you are familiar with C/C++ or Fortran programming languages then you should definitely attend this course! You can learn:

  • How to use Message Passing Interface (MPI) to parallelise your code for efficient processing on systems like Magnus
  • Modify your code to perform simulations on previously unavailable scale,
  • Understand how the code you are using was parallelised with MPI

Hourly Schedule

The course is organised over one week in three 90min webinar sessions.

  1. Webinar Session 1 (90 min): Introduction and Point-to-Point Communication
    Exercise 1 (approx. 30 min): Ping-Pong
  2. Session 2 (90 min): Non-blocking Communication and Communicators
    Exercise 2 (approx. 45 min): Message in a Ring
  3. Session 3 (90 min): Collectives, overview of other topics and next steps
    Exercise 3 (approx. 90 min): Game of Life

Each session ends with an exercise to be completed individually on the Magnus supercomputer before the next meeting.

In cases of any problems with the exercises, you will be able to contact Pawsey Supercomputing Specialists via a messaging app or email.

Magnus training accounts will be available for the duration of the course.

If you are familiar with C/C++ or Fortran programming languages then you should definitely attend this course! You can learn:
  • about GPU computing and why you might want to use it,
  • learn how to make use of GPUs at the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre,
  • learn how to use CUDA to write code for GPU-accelerated systems,
  • learn how to use OpenACC to accelerate existing codes with GPUs,
  • understand how the code you are using was accelerated with CUDA or OpenACC

  4. Webinar Session 4 (45 min): GPU Libraries
    Exercise 4: Using the cublas library

Each session ends with an exercise to be complete individually on the Zeus supercomputer before the next meeting.
