The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre and The University of Western Australia are organising “SUPERcomputing and BIG data for researchers” session as part of the UWA research week.

SUPERcomputing and BIG data for researchers” will showcase services and resources that Pawsey Supercomputing Centre can provide to UWA researchers to take their research to the next level.

This free event will see researchers presenting about their experiences as high-performance computing (HPC) users and how their projects have been impacted by Pawsey services and expertise. Staff from Pawsey will also be presenting information about the organisation and answering questions from researchers who would like to take advantage of HPC and related services.

The morning will start with an opportunity for existing and potential users who drop in to have one-on-one assistance with Pawsey staff.

If you are a researcher or student who is interested in high-performance computing, or if you want to see if your work can be taken to the next level by using powerful computing resources, we welcome you to come along and meet with Pawsey users and staff.

9.00am Drop in Clinics, a one-on-one session for researchers to meet with Pawsey experts and discuss opportunities, seek for technical advice on how Pawsey can help with a scientific project or get help with code issues.

10.00am Welcome by Pawsey staff

10.05am UWA Researcher presenting about the impact that Pawsey services have on their science project. (TBA)

10.30am Pawsey Supercomputing Staff presenting about Supercomputing, Data and Visualisation services

11.30 am Q&A and networking session. Light lunch will be provided.

Aimed at more experienced programmers, three more sessions are offered to users who wish to develop, optimise and parallelise their codes on supercomputers.

  • Optimising Serial Code:  9:00am – 12:00pm Thurs 14 September
  • Parallelising your Code with OpenMP:  1:00pm – 4:00pm Thurs 14 September
  • Parallelising your Code with MPI: 9:00am – 4:00pm Fri 15 September

Descriptions of all the courses are available at here, and previous training slides can be found here.

Courses are delivered in a face to face classroom style. Attendees are expected to bring and work on their own laptops. Staff from the Supercomputing Team will be facilitating so you can meet and chat with them.

  • 11-12 and 14-15 September: Training Pod B, 20 Dick Perry Ave, Kensington 6151 (next door to the ARRC building)
  • 13 September: Visualisation Room, Pawsey Centre, Burvill Court, Kensington 6151 (up the hill from Pod B)
  • Free parking available on-site.

Additional Information

  • Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops for the sessions.
  • Courses are free of charge and open to all, however places are limited.
  • Light refreshments will be provided on each day.
  • Lunch can be purchased at nearby cafeterias.
