The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre is off to SC15 in Austin, Texas this weekend, and invites any other attendees to stop by the HPC in Australia booth to say hi. As well as sending a number of staff to present and attend talks and presentations, the Centre is again managing the Australian representation in the Student Cluster Competition.
Five students from Murdoch University will be competing with the world’s best to build a small cluster from scratch, run and benchmark a variety of scientific applications (including a “mystery” application to be revealed the day of the competition), all while adhering to power constraints. Our teams in previous years have all performed highly, so it’s hoped that Team Quokka might bring home the gold for Australia this time around.
Cray is generously sponsoring the team and is providing the students with the hardware to build their own cluster.
2015 marks the third year Australian students will participate in the competition, with Pawsey’s 2013 team being the first time an Australian team competed.
